No I have not fixed the problem yet. So here is an update with more questions.

I have checked the timing chain and it is fitted one tooth off. So it has not jumped a tooth.

Does anyone have any more ideas/suggestions ?

Also I have an old mk6 swb fwd van. It has a vp30 pump on it that works fine.
Can I transfer this to my rwd 2.4 if i get it virginised ?

Can I virginise it myself if i buy one of those clone vcm2 kits from china/ebay ?

Hope someone can shed some more light onto this problem.

Thanks
Rick

Any ideas anyone ?

Sounds like the timing somewhere is out and the P0149 DTC & limited RPM seems to confirm this , so if your 100% happy the physical timing is AOK the next option is to try a different pump. I'd be tempted to try your 90 pump on the SWB as you know there's definitely no timing issue on that one. A good clone of the VCM/IDS kit will allow swaps / installation of a used pump via routine called Module Initialisation, & as part of that process IDS virginises it.

The firmware in the pump's own ECU does differ say from a 90 RWD pump compared to a 75ps FWD pump , but they do install & run , usually just fine, when transferred to a different model that also uses the same pump type, IE both models that use a VP30.

The "problem " with changing the pump is that the engine isn't noisy, if a faulty pump was failing to time the injection via faulty control module or a broken solenoid ( the solenoid is already ruled out ) you usually get a really obvious old tractor engine running type diesel knock noise.

Hi all,

Sorry kobby1, poor wording on my part. All the pulleys are in the right place, the timing chain is fitted with the gold links one tooth off.

Martynx, that sounds like a good plan of attack. Do you know how to virginise these pumps ? I have looked on the forum but can't seem to find any kind of instructions.

Thanks
Richard

Virginisation is a little bit specialised in that most diagnostic tools can't do it so it s a job for someone with , for example a Bosch KTS tool in which case they connect direct to the pump or via that Initialization routine using IDS via the diagnostic socket, once replacement pump is installed.

Thanks martyn,

So I guess that means the cheap Chinese ids copies wont do it ? I've been doing some googling and found out how to do it(in theory). It would just be the hardware side of things. I just don't like the idea of paying £75 for someone to do this once if i can pay £140 and be able to do this and other stuff as many times as I want.

Also, I guess from the sig, you are Mr vantuner ? Or are you just promoting his services ?

Cheers

No problem Richard, & yes i am the vantuner.

Cheap chinese IDS is the only cheap option, ( there are no european made VCM's )& it has the functionality in the software , the only caveat being varying quality of the hardware or missing functionality on some software / hardware combinations.

There are many differing communication lines withing VCM & not all work , in my limited experience with clones anyway.

There is an idiots ( beginners ) guide to help though with the tool generally. As long as you've an appetite for loading the software & cracks & tinkering / learning to see what works & how etc , its certainly an option.

So here's an update,

I finally got my ids. Set it up as per the idiots guide and it worked first time. I have removed all the old keys and programmed 2 back in. I spent hours changing the fuel pump over. Went into PATS system and selected module initialisation. Chose FIP and Entered my incode/outcode. It made me wait 10mins to blank the RIM. Then told me to cycle the ignition and then declared initialisation not done ! I have tried a few times and always the same.

Oohh the fury i felt when after spending all day swapping pumps about it casually mentions that the "initialisation is not done"

Please can someone advise me on whats wrong as I can't even start it to drive it off cleethorpes pier !

Thank you all,

Could you plug your old pump into the other van and try an initialisation, to see if your IDS will complete the process?.

That may help to confirm your IDS setup is working as it should .

Thanks for the reply Martyn,

Unfortunately the old van is a non starter as it's had other stuff removed. However in my frustration this morning I turned the ignition key too far when messing with the van. It tried to start ! So I cranked it over for a few seconds and it started and runs. Best news is it has cured my power problem :D

Thanks for all your help.

In reguard to getting my van "vantuned" the van is an ex national grid with mechanical pto and rev controller. Will this still be ok for you to operate on ?
