Mk6 brakes binding

Postby ian mk6.90 » Sat Apr 08, 2017 12:00 am

Hi guys so about a month ago now my drivers side front brake was binding after driving for about 20 miles. It must have bean binding a bit for some time because the disk is quite worn but must of not been bad enough for me to notice. I took the calliper of and found a hole in the rubber seal around one of the pistons so I changed the calliper for a brand new one and put some new pads in and if was fine. But now it started binding again it's happening at the same point on the same journey so I don't know if it's something to do with heat ? All I can think is something gas got wedged in there but I'm clutching at straws. Has anyone got any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated

Brake flexi hoses are known to collapse internally and cause this, they start to act like a one way valve, failing to relieve pressure.

As the punto chap said above brake flexi, there was also dude that had fitted brake light switch and hadn't adjusted it properly and was pressing pedal slightly but enough to start brakes heating up bind

Will I be able to tell if there is a problem with the hose by looking At it ? To be honest I'm a home mechanic a don't know what a brake light switch is but I don't think it's bean touched unless it's somewhere it can get knocked ?

You won't be able to tell from the outside, And you should only have to change the one at the effected corner :D

Lift the one that's binding off the ground press the brakes and if its still binding open the bleed valve on the caliper if it squirts fluid at you and frees off the hose is furkred d
Seven quid for a new one
