Fuel pump reconditioning?

Postby soulysurfer » Fri Apr 14, 2017 10:54 am

Hello all!

Long time since i've been here. Thanks to Luke the moderator for helping me retrieve my account!
een over two years since i've had a van (Rip My poor Smiley - aka Green beastie) and I've decided to go for a transit again - of course. I got myself a 2002 LWB RWD high top transit - this time she's bright orange instead of bright green! Its the 90ps T350. She's in the shop at the moment being worked on, I thought she lacked in power and consumed too much fuel, turns out the computer has fuel pump issues. The mechanic thinks that she needs a new fuel pump.

Firstly,

Does this sound right to you?

Secondly,

Is there a good place to pick up reconditioned/second hand pumps from? There are some on Ebay, but I'm not sure about them. I deffo can't afford the price of a new one!

Any help would be very much appreciated!!

If it also sounds a bit like an old tractor, diesel knock it'll likely be the timing solenoid, these can be bought from the ford dealer for about £170.
Before going that route though, get the pump timing checked properly with the timing tool kit, can give the same symptoms if it's out of time.
My 90 t350 was like this when I bought it, fitted the solenoid and she was transformed.

Unfortunately the EDC (brain on the top of the pump) has gone now, had it away for repair, refitted and it ran great before cutting out on the motorway after 5 miles. Sent the EDC off again, came back but now won't start and gives a watchdog fault on the diagnostics.

Decided on a recon pump with a warranty, got it trade from eurocarparts for £560 with the vat , better than the £1150 retail though.

Thanks for your time and the replies guys. Really appreciated :)

I will pass this information onto the mechanic.

Any idea how you get to reconditioned pumps through eurocarparts @crankshaft? Cant see anything on their site.

Thanks!
