Or pump breaking up inside small particles jamming stop open at work we get this all the time first the stop plays up then pump packs up altogether .when they do this we always put in a new stop sometime it will pack up in a few days sometimes months we do this every time till they will not run anymore then it's towed in and new pump is fitted all though this is not on transits it happens the same on Bosch and Lucas pumps Hope yours is just the stop mate

X2 Check for filings on the plunger when you remove it.

Its a common problem on the turbo (lucas epic) and it would just need a new plunger in the solenoid.
