Dpf issues

Postby Gareths » Sun Apr 23, 2017 8:13 pm

Hi I have a mk7 2011 transit euro5 and have been having issues with the dpf being blocked. Van went in and dpf sent off to be cleaned were they cut it open to do this, got a before and after report saying 100 percent flow after clean however only 200 miles after refitting the dtc came up saying soot build up then went into limp mode. How is this possible to be blocked up again so fast or is the issue somewhere else? I removed the dpf pressure sensor from the pipes and reset the codes but still comes up saying blocked dpf. Does this mean the sensor is faulty? Any help would be much appreciated thanks Gareth

In order for a dpf to operate correctly it has to regenerate this is done by the pcm recognizing when the soot load goes above a set threshold. when this happens fuel is injected into the exaust system on the engine side of the dpf this superheats the dpf and burns out the unwanted ash and soot certain peramiters have to be met in order for this to take place or a forced regen can be carried out via ids. if your van is doing a lot of idleing or slow low rpm driveing the exaust stream can not gain enough temperature to keep the dpf clean, on the filter you will find sensors (the number varies could be 2 could be 3 ) and the 2 differential pressure sensor pipes the sensor wires are known to break at the harness connector where they join the main loom also the fuel injector/atomizer that sprays fuel into the exaust is known to fail both electricly and the fuel delivery- it can block so no fuel is sprayed into the exaust stream get the codes checked to see if the conditions are met to allow a regen to occur also a good blast up the road can raise the ex temp up enough to keep the dpf in good order

Was the garage a Ford dealer?
Or an independent that doesn't know Transits?

There are a few things that cause dpf faults on Transits, the wiring fails, the glow plug fails and the vaporiser fails, all easily repaired if the garage knows what they are doing. Unfortunately most garages don't so they throw new filters on without fixing the actual problem

Get it to aFord dealer and I bet they fix it for under £200

We have never had to replace a dpf.

It's booked in with ford on 4th May so hopefully will get it sorted. The garage I went to wasn't ford he just took the filter off and sent it away for cleaning.

Ok so it's still in with ford they have diagnosed a faulty vaporizer and said it needs a new dpf too at £1248 to do the work.

A customer of mine , after i told him to renew his blocked vapouriser , took it away , took it out & unblocked it , said it was just carbon. He also checked the heating part of it was working OK, & when he came back to me it (static) regenerated OK.
