Black smoke ????

Postby Marauder » Fri Apr 28, 2017 9:53 am

Having watched a few of these American custom car rebuild programs. I see some of the Hot Rod type of Custom builds must have a Diesel engine fitted... Why ... How the heck when they put there foot down do they get that thick black smoke out of there exhaust pipes.. Do they inject unburnt diesel into the ex/pipe........ PS I don't wana do it all the time lol.. Just curios how they make black smoke at will.

Welderup?

Black smoke can be caused by overfueling

Yup off boost too in played with turbo diesels get a puff then boost kicks in and adds the extra air needed to clean the burn. Diesel head 123 s tourneo fills the air with off boost 'awe' lol

Yep...overfueling.....

Unlike petrol engines, the more fuel you pump into a diesel, the more power it makes....have a look at some of the "Tractor Pull" videos on boobtoob... Some of those things are just awesome...until they drop the bottom end all over the track...!

Been looking at a few of the posts on Utube.I have got to try and give it a go lol.I was wondering if I could make black smoke by adding diesel to the air intake ?.. I just know that I'm going to get some flak off here now.

Are we going to give you some flack..?? Of course..

Uncontrolled fuel in the intake is probably not a good idea....These diesels don't have a throttle plate like a petrol engine, they get full air all the time. To control the power, all we do is change the amount of "controlled" fuel via the injectors. Adding uncontrolled fuel on top of this can only end in tears.....a run-away is all too easy doing this sort of thing....A blown turbo seal does a similar thing...most of the time it doesn't end well either. Google diesel runaway and you'll see what can happen...

However, it's your engine and your fuel....do with it as you please..
