Gearbox cables?

Hi Folks,
I appreciate the question has been asked millions of times,but my mk6 fwd tranny sometimes is stiff going into first,then hard into second. ALl other gears perfect. SOmetimes worse than others.
Ive read could be cables? The gear selector is a refurb on top of box,and works perfect,so reading your previous posts,i can only put it down to cables.
To be straight to the point,i havent got a clue what im looking at or what im doing mechanical wise,a total novice, so does anyone live locally ish to DUdley area of the Midlands,and could possibly take a look for me please?
