Locking issue

Postby RPWC » Thu May 25, 2017 8:35 am

My mk7 won't lock, the door open light is on on the dash but all the doors are shut firmly. When Inpress the lock button or try using the key, the doors just open again and the horn sounds, how do I rectify this.?

Check side door contact plate and pins, clean with sand paper if need be and some WD40
They're situated just below centre runner mechanism

I cleaned the contacts on both side doors(ex BT), and sprayed with wd 40, and I think was nearside door, as after that one was done , it worked,. Van was for the remainder of last week, been away for weekend, and just went move it, back to square one., cant lock it, and cant secure it as I have the caravan on the drive, so van and car have to stay on the road.

I have disconnected then switch and the other connector on the door post, and nothing happened, is it worth doing the same with corresponding part on the sliding door?

Sounds like you're on the right track
Did you clean the spring loaded pins
Does the door close enough for contacts to touch
Disconnecting wont do anything as it will think a door is open
Do they lock manually from inside?

Tried the front cab doors, lock , then open again, how do you doit from the inside on the side doors? Will have to leave it till morning now as too dark, and cant keep sounding the horn as little kids next door will be in bed.

On the inside of door, to the rear near where the lock mechanism is there's a hole, inside the hole you'll see a slotted mechanism, use large plain screw driver and turn it, doesn't move much and shouldn't need much force

Now sorted, took it to a local bloke who dabbles in Transits , and supposedly knows them inside out. A friend of a friend so to speak, bloody useless, he didn't want to know, just said he hadn't got time to look at it today, and it would be a fault with one of the locks. Derrr tell me something I don't know.!! So contacted a friend who is an auto electrician, told him the problem, he said straight away its a common fault, usually with the harness inside the back door. Took the panel off, sure enough, a broken wire staring me in the face. Thanks for the help everyone.
