MK6 Starting Issue

Postby Silverstallion » Fri May 26, 2017 9:53 pm

Could someone please narrow down my problem please?
Ive read of a possible 4 or 5 options that it could be,but could cost arm and a leg for no reason,so here goes...
I turn the key to start, will turn over ages but wont fire. then as soon as u turn ignition off,and back on again to turn key to start,it fires and runs instantly. No flat spots, irregular ticking over or nothing. ANd that process works everytime without fail so far.
Any ideas greatly recieved.
Many thanks

Buy only GENUINE FORD parts if your keeping the van, I've had problems with motor factor parts that actually weren't that much cheaper, you'd probably get away with chain, tensioner and tensioner guide, and replace front crank seal, and give it an oil (use decent 5/30 oil) and filter change

its a bit of a job if you're not good with the spanners, all the gubbins are inside the drivers side of engine, the full side/timing cover comes off so a bit job,but plenty of info on here how to

Try DOHERTY TRANSIT PARTS as they're selling genuine ford full kit for my 2.2 mk7 cheaper than spurious after market stuff

to be honest andz, since i wrote this,it hasnt been too bad. it starts first time again now. so i dunno what to say,may just wait n see for a bit. but thanks for info, ive got it logged should it carry on again or get worse. mate of mine said could be to do with fuel leaking back or something,or fuel filter,as it only happens first thing,or if left for a fair bit,so i dunno. might just live with it andz,as it isnt a major prob so far, touch wood

Sorry thought it was every time you went to start, fuel filter is the cheapest place to start, put a Genuine filter on, again like the timing chain best use gen part

i have a similar issue and also the starter motor kept sticking so i changed this first but instantly the starting issue worsened from 8 to 10 seconds turning over to fire to 20 to 30 seconds, obviously turns over much faster with the new starter but takes an age, even if left for 30 mins it does it ?, any idea please, also sorry for jumping on your post, i did start a new thread on it but no replies in 4 days and i`m desperate, also when running the alternator belt appears oval (not spinning true)?

Hi Partyanimals,
No probs at all. To be very honest,i havent a clue mechanical wise, andz is best one to ask. Regarding starter motor etc, everything fine on mine, just purely the issue above. And that isnt every time. Very annoying. Sorry im no help, but andz is the man to answer ur question. Good luck,i know how annoying and upsetting it can be..

Are you fixing your own van? You got IDS, leak off test kit, scope, knowledge? If yes it is a 30 min job to identify the problem. If no, than dont waste time and go to a specialist. You did not specify what engine, fuel system, version of your ecu software. What answer do you expect??

I understand you want advise, but as a technician what advice can i give you if i dont have any data any fault codes.
I've been fixing Transits last 10 years. if i advise you to change the pump will you do it.
Your case is not DIY.
My advise is to take the van to the garage. At the end of the day they will be responsible for diagnose.
If you have a scanner than please dive us fuel pressure reading at cranking.

A Mk6 needing mucho cranking after standing, is 9 times out of 10 a leaky filter/filter head/fuel lines.
