Void where stereo should go

Postby wellingtondane » Sun Jun 18, 2017 7:09 pm

Not meaning to sound thick but bought a single din kenwood and a single din adapter surround. Mk5 1998. Went to fit it today but seems to be a problem am i being thick. The void where the original stereo went is massive with no top or sides to fit a new stereo as there would be 2 inches on sides and top and an inch under it, in other words if i did put a stereo in what i have it would disapear backwards. Is there something which has been removed.

Sounds like some idiot has butchered the hole!
The adaptor should fit snugly in place

There should be a hole at the rear of the void that a rubber 'thingy' on the back of the head-unit locates into.

Third pic, there's a bracket at the top, about an inch wide with chevron type shapes in it, that supports the headhunt. Ignore what I said about the hole for the 'thingy', I must have been thinking about a different MK.

Yes there should be a plastic thing either on or you bolt to the head unit than slides on the things Mr Mike said about.

The thread and max bolt length is normally stamped into the head unit next to the threaded hole.
