V6 swap into pinto mk3

Postby CLIPBOARD » Tue Jun 20, 2017 11:37 pm

So I have a mk3 190 camper with a 2.0 pinto, it currently returns 17mpg and tops out about 65mph (gps - the speedo shows 80) and virtually comes to a standstill at the sight of a hill!
I also have a 2.9i Sierra lying around that has lost the battle to tin worm but the engine is still strong, seeing as this has (or rather had according to ford) about 150bhp and the pinto a mere 74 I was hoping to drop it in.
The pinto is on an MT75 gearbox with an adaptor plate

The wiring for the EFI I can sort, but I'm struggling on a few of the mechanicals:
1. I understand that I can redrill the 2.0 pinto gearbox mounting plate to take the 2.9 - does anyone have a template?
2. Engine mounts, do I use the pinto transit or the Sierra V6 mounts?
3. Flywheel and clutch - needs to be SVO? Anyone know where I can get one from or an alternative
4. Anything I've overlooked?

I might be wrong but I'm sure the transit box had a larger belhousing on it hence the plate and I think the belhousing will fit the v6, as for the engine mounts I can't say maybe trial and error, or as above and old ambulance would be ideal

Ford put the 2.9 in in a strange way, thick adaptor plates one off flywheels etc. it's been suggested before you could just modify the pinto plate, I think some of the holes line up.
One of the exhaust manifolds is unique to the transit as well from memory.
