How to get at the Indicator bulb?

I have the indicator in hand and feel like I've done the hard bit by removing the wires but can't see a way to get to the bulb. It is an 07 2.2tdi with sticky out black plastic cones. About 2 thirds of the way to the orange lense, The cone has a split all the way around with a notch for a screw driver. I have stuck one well into the joint and levered up but I feel like I'm going to break it, is there some way that the lense itself comes off or do I need to persevere with the screw driver?

Twist the unit upwards or down wards depending on side about a quarter of a turn
