Problems starting with hot engine!

Postby bartb » Thu Jun 22, 2017 2:37 pm

I have a lovely old 1997 Transit 190
TD starts fine cold! Will not start without much cranking and gas pedal when hot :-( could it be the Temp Sender?
Can anyone help!

Worn timing belt can cause poor starting
Ford Transit Custom 280S Trend 105ps

Had similar problem on a di a long time ago in my campervan after changing the fuel filter start up from cold ok but drive over 15 miles or so stop at a shop and it would be a pig to start it turned out to be filter not all the way up into the filter head remover the unit and pushed the head down onto the filter to get a good seal refitted to van no more problems this van did not have a lift pump on it .lf you have not had the filter off or work done on the van you may have a small air leak on the system.
After this at work one of the vans had the same problem but doing this did not cure it we ended up replacing all the pipe work to and from the tank and fitting a fuel filter unit off a non Ford truck to sort it out .

Thanks very
Much for that advice! Thanks also to ake from Scotland :-)
Sounds like a real Sherlock Holmes Dillema! I am going to change the Temp Sender next £63 !!! as this is for 'engine management ' and 'may' be the culprit! If not - I am just gonna have to keep trying all the possibilities that have been suggested! By helpful forum members!
Thanks very much guys!
