mk6 gearbox cable

Postby stagg65 » Tue Jun 27, 2017 5:33 pm

Ok so ive read ALL the threads on cable adjustment, but i cant work out where the spring clip is that i need to remove.
Ive removed the grey metal tap but thats as far as ive got.
Anyone got any pics pointing out the spring clip i need to remove.
many thanks.

First remove wire spring clips, arrow 1 - look carefully how it must be fixed back - just the same.
Then pull in arrow 2 direction (2-3mm) locking sliders (thin collar).
Now you can adjust the cable (using M10 blocking bolt, etc., etc.).

Right so i have to manually adjust the cable, it wont adjust its self when i remove the spring

Insert M10 bolt in neutral lever position through the special locking hole, now lever will be locked in this position.
Then be sure that selectors on gearbox are also in neutral position - both, for rotation and vertical movement.
Now you can lock back sliders on gray cable pushing back thin collar and refitting spring clips in correct position.

It's all, don't forget remove locking bolt and close lever housing... 8)

Early Mk6 models had both cables (gray and blue) with adjustment, if you have it - do it on both cables.

Yes, you are right. My mistake... I found this picture somewhere...

Image

But I have from the begining gray cable with adjustment.

Hm... Maybe it is oposit situation - early models had adjustment only on blue cable :?: :?

But now in Ford shops they offer both cables with adjustment...
http://www.ford-esklep.pl/pl/p/Linka-zm ... ieska/4132
http://www.ford-esklep.pl/pl/p/Linka-zm ... szara/4131

So: if you have problems with gears, that they are on one side too shallow (for ex. 1st, 3rd, 5th), on oposit side too deep (2nd, 4th) and lever in neutral position doesn't stay vertically - maybe change gray cable for model with adjustment...

If rest of all gears you can move without problems, it is broken 1st gear synchroniser.
