Inverter

Postby Nickrachel » Tue Jun 27, 2017 8:03 pm

I've got a 2017 custom. I've got a 250w inverter to fit in the back to charge lights and drill batteries. I've got 1 live point on the side of the drivers seat. Can I take feed from this to the inverter? If so should I fit a split charge relay so that it's only powered when vehicle is running?

Also I need to find out how thick the cable needs to be to feed the inverter?

A split charging relay is exactly what it says it is , IT IS NOT designed to drive an invertor you need a battery between the relay and the invertor to act as storage and to smooth out the amperage draw on the charging relay

Right been busy and now need to sort this.

So if I wore the inverter to the live point on the side of the drivers seat this will be ok?

A 250 watt inverter should be able to be run from a cigarette lighter point in the van
Alternatively it should have a red cable and a black cable with crocodile clips on
Put the red cable to the + side of the battery and take the black cable to the - side of the battery
Then turn it on ...., That's it

Crocodile clips are for short term temporary use.
It's not recommended to connect direct to the battery on any Transit built since 2006

That's because yours is an older Mk6, not a 2016 van. The later ones have customer connection points next to the seat base, specifically for aftermarket connections :)
