Sudden high Revs/loss of engine

Postby pollyfarmer » Mon Jul 17, 2017 6:20 pm

Hi,Im hoping that someone can help me with a problem with my transit lwb minibus. (please can you explain in idiot English as Im a female farmer, inner workings of livestock Im ok with, mechanics are not my forte!) whilst driving at any speed there is a sudden increase in revs (from idling at 1000ish to 1500 and rising) there is loss of power and the coil light comes on,I then have to turn off the engine and restart which lasts for a while but then the same thing happens again. We have had a diagnostic run twice by different garages but both came up with nothing, but there is clearly something wrong. I was wondering if it was anything to do with the speed limiter thats fitted, otherwise I am baffled. Please can someone shed any light on this as with my 6 children and an assistance dog in the bus Im getting frazzled with all the stopping and starting!

I'll hazard a guess at mk6 tourneo. N

Its mk6 so not all code readers will work ideally it needs plugging into ford ids.

I'm guessing its 125ps TDDI, if you give us the reg one of us can find out for you. N

Just for info, I had this problem and eventually fixed it.

The fuel pump timing solenoid wires had chafed and were shorting out.
I re-insulated them and all is good.

Ids had reported crank position sensor, wiring short, open circuit and both of the standard fuel timing solenoid errors.

Hope this helps.

Btw it is a 06 mk6 2.4 Tddi with the vp30 pump.

Chafed pump wires are more usually a FWD problem, whereabouts on the loom was the problem on yours :?:

Hiya,

It wasn't on the loom. It was on the 2 wires from the pump circuit board (EDC ?) to the solenoid itself.
I think the wires were left too long when the solenoid was changed and it rubbed/burnt against the engine.

Cheers
