Rear jacking points on a 2017 Custom Trend

Postby snowie » Fri Aug 18, 2017 2:55 pm

Just had a look at the Manual for my new 2017 Custom Trend.
The rear jacking points are "under the rear leaf spring directly behind the rear wheel".
This doesn't look right.
The Ford scissor jack does not sit right on the leaf.
There is a brake line directly in the way of the jack.
The leaf 'straightens out' as the van is jacked up.
Generally it doesn't look right and doesn't feel right.
The jack could easily go under the rear axle however, but NOT according to the manual.
I'm sure a garage would put their jack (bigger than the Ford scissor jack) on the axle.
Any thoughts/advice, what do others do?
Bearing in mind I cannot get another jack, as this is a campervan with limited storage space for tools.
Hopefully, below is a photo of what I'm talking about. Jack should sit right on the 'white blob'
Thanks

You can't link to Photobucket any more, they prefer to be exclusive unless you pay them lots of dosh
It's best to add the image direct to the forum, using the box below the dialogue box:-

This photo shows where manual suggest placing the jack. Right on the large white blob.
Thanks Altransit.

Bigjohnthomas, on the suspension leaf, between the 2 bolts holding the leaf to the axle, there is a white mark. From close up, this looks like a 'white coloured blob of white paint, with a indistinguishable pattern on it. Further up, towards the camera, and again on the suspension leaf, there is a smaller white coloured mark.

Ake, the manual states the scissor jack should sit directly on the suspension leaf, more or less between these white marks. It cannot sit perpendicular on the suspension leaf as the wheel would prevent turning the handle to raise the van.
It can sit below and parallel to the suspension leaf, but in my opinion this is not secure, therefore not safe, as it could easily slip off. The photo below is a picture of the manual page and shows the jack. Where the jack would come into contact with the suspension leaf, there are two raised 'lips' on the jack. This is what I think makes it a poor insecure fit. There is also the problem of the brake pipe which gets in the way when turning the jack handle.
My opinion is that the scissor jack would fit better and more securely directly below the axle, thereby raising the van from the axle, but this is not what the manual says.
I believe any garage, tyre fitting centre would put their trolley jack directly under/onto the axle.
The jack does not fit well i.e. securely or safely where it is meant to, and that is my issue.
