ABS and ESP lights on

Postby carlborges » Sun Aug 20, 2017 7:50 am

Hi The ESP and ABS lights have come on. I went to use my 2007 T280 130 to tow my caravan and battery was flat, put it on charge and started it. Then noticed three lights on, general brake warning light, ABS and ESP. Even with ignition off the unit under the fuse carrier is still active (buzzing and got hot after a while) unless I take the fuse out. Any ideas where to start?

Many thanks
Carl

Check wiring at front nsf inner wing around the ABS pump area as wires chafing against brake pipes has been knowing to happen

Thanks for that, I've just been checking it, can't see anything obvious. Lets hope Halfords sort it!

I've just picked my van up from my local Halfords Autocentre, who were great. They cleared all codes but I have two codes that have re-appeared/didn't go, C1B02 Return pump and B1048 Brake fluid level switch, the pump still runs even without ignition on so fuse is still out.

They suggested a few options:
1) Replace Master cylinder first (cheapest of the two replacements)
2) Replace ABS pump/motor (£700 +)
3) Take it to a Ford Main dealer.

I have opted to do 3) unless anyone has any better (cheaper) options as I'm due to sell it as soon as it's fixed?

Many thanks

Update:

Just collected my van from local Ford dealers but only after I'd picked myself off the floor.

They have said that the ABS pump needs to be replaced, Ford only sell ABS pump with control unit, that with the labour will cost £2350! I am now about to call round see if I can get just the ABS pump and get it fitted by non Ford, does anyone have any suggestions please?

any suggestions please?
Read your ABS unit number and look it on ebay eBay listings

Maybe it is enough to change only ABS controller - six screws Torx 20 on unit...In continental Mk6 it's possible to do without unit and pipes disassembly - in your Mk7 I don't know.

Before work you must be sure new-secondhand unit.
When you get new ABS unit, first try to transfer plug from socket in your old unit to new one. It should be possible. And turn key on - ABS, ESP and brake fluid light must be quickly off. Pomp engine plug must be also connectef to controller socket.

wojciech,

I have found a company that will re-condition the old one so no need to worry about re-mapping, I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for all your advice. :)

Ok, ok. But your solution is much, much more expensive - I think.
I don't know British prices, but you must pay for:
- disassembly whole unit with with unscrewing fluid pipes
- controller reconditioning,
- assembly unit back into van, connection fluid pipes and air release from ABS unit and all pipes.

If you change yourself controller on ABS unit, you will pay only for secondhand unit.

In Poland it is more than two times cheaper as first solution. Unit on ebay cost 320 PLN, second version with controller reconditioning about 760 PLN
Ok, it will interesting how much it cost in UK...

Update on ASB/ESP saga.

Got the reconned unit back from REMAN, £320, took under a week to turn it round. It comes with brief instructions, I fitted according to the instructions and bleed the system using IDS. Managed to get a firm pedal without engine running but once engine running. Then checked back through the other posts and realised I needed to have ignition on as well, tried that but still not a great pedal. I then decided to use a combo system, used the IDS, ignition on but got my faithful assistant (wife) to pump the pedal. It is all now great.

Thanks very much to REMAN and this forum. ( it took a long time as I was away on holiday and started a new job).
