Transit 2003 2.4ld not starting

Hi,
I have been fixing up my van and after a month of it standing in one place I tried to start it up, but even with jumper cables it did not work so we pushed it down the hill and it started, but then after 5 minutes turned off again and was unable to start it. The diesel glow plug indicator is on now and the van does not start now at all. The gas pedal did not respond anymore.
I did try to change the oil while the van was standing for one month, but could not get the fuel filter cap off and changed only the oil and air filter. Tried to change the diesel filter, but had bought the wrong one so I refilled the old one with diesel and put it back on. Perhaps that could be a problem? Getting quite desperate, hope somebody has some answers.

You shouldn't bump start transits, they very prone to jumping timing chains

When trying to start it now the engine does turn, it does not start though. Could it be faulty starter motor then?

I had a starter like that, sounded like it was spinning OK but just wasn't fast enough, don't buy cheap eBay starters

Try a spray of easy start or brake cleaner when trying to start the van, if it fires up then I would say its the starter.

Does the glow plug light flash constantly while trying to start or just after 30 seconds (or how ever long it is). N

I just went back to the car and charged the battery for 30 minutes. When trying to start it it the engine first turned once, but after all I heard was a ticking noise without engine turning. The glow plug light does not appear anymore. What do you think?

Battery is too far gone to hold sufficient charge. Fit a good battery and try again. A jump / booster will not help, as the power form the good vehicle or battery just gets sucked into the old dead one. You need to remove the old battery completely and fit a new one.
