I've read lots of threads on here about which ELM327 are good ones or not as there are some that work well, some don't work so well, and some don't work at all, depending on which vehicle they are being used with. Many posters are wondering if their reader is genuine ELM327, a clone or a fake with no real way of knowing, as they are relying on the honesty (or not) of the seller. Even if it is genuine, is the ELM327 version that you recieve the same as what is advertised?
I've just stumbled on a free Android app that may help, called ELM327 Identifier. It will tell you which version you have, or if it is a fake.

Plug your code reader in, turn your ignition on, turn your wi-fi or Bluetooth on and fire up the app.
Tap "connect" and the horizontal bars will either turn red or green anf you get a message at the top of the screen telling you what version the reader claims to be.
The green bars will tell you what version it actually is - red bars mean it not supprting any commands above that version.
I have one of these Pumpkin mini OBDII Bluetooth reader - the white one, that is advertised as being version 1.5
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pumpkin-Blueto ... GE8GM?th=1
Sure enough, the app tells me that it is version 1.4, not version 1.5 as all the commands are supported up to 1.4, and no commands are supported from 1.4b onwards.
If anyone is having trouble with a reader, this is a quick and easy way to find out if you have what you think you have, or it will tell you if you have a fake.
