Hi All,
First post here, I could do with some help please!
I recently bought a 2002 mk6 T280 2l Transit (DV02LPY if you want any more specs).
It has been running fairly nicely for around a month, but I went to start this weekend, and its died. Me and my brother (i know a small amount, he is an experienced DIYer) have worked on it a bit, and been troubleshooting, but have hit a bit of a dead end. This video was taken half an hour before posting this: https://youtu.be/8PQKuxnB_Yg
Things to note:
We initially diagnosed it as a faulty battery terminal (person who we bought it from mentioned it was loose, so sometimes the wire needed a wiggle to start. We replaced the terminal on the positive, but that didn't fix it.
We then researched and thought it was broken starter / starter solenoid, we bought a brand new starter from an autoparts shop. We changed the starter motor, but that didn't fix it.
We thought next it might be the battery not having enough juice, we tried to jump start it with a 1.6 diesel Audi A3, 2l diesel skoda, and a beefy citroen relay, but nothing worked.
We trickle charged the transit battery (it got to around 90%, then we were loosing light) so tried it again, and we are still having the same problem.
We have played with a multimeter, and the starter is getting power.
When I bought it there was a leak in the oil / engine sump (a known issue , and he gave me a spare, which i haven't fit yet. The van has been leaking oil (my neighbours love me!!) and after it still didn't start we checked the oil, thinking worst case scenario the engine may have ceased. There was no oil in the engine, but I have only ran the van for about 10-20 minutes max when the engine would have no/ very low oil in, and ive read that this should cease the engine majorly (it takes a lot to cease and engine I'm told). The engine has new oil it in now, but we haven't started the van since, so I suspect it hasn't gotten round the engine. (the dipstick comes out with clean oil on it).
And that brings me to now!
Any help in troubleshooting / fixing would be appreciated. If you need any more details from me please let me know.
Thanks,
Tim
