turbo on 1999 2,5 transit

Postby oirishman » Wed Oct 11, 2017 6:26 am

Has anyone ever removed the turbo from a 1999 2.5 transit....can it be done without the aid of a pit or a hoist...i am proposing to remove it on the roadside....i need to get it reconditioned.i understand the manifold has to be removed.

It is much easier to separate the manifold and turbo with them off the vehicle.

Remove the downpipe clamp on the gearbox mount before spliting at the turbo joint, and both oil lines before spliting the manifold from head.

As above, remove the asembly with the manifold would be best.

BUT :!:

Is it screaching :?:
Have you had your fault codes read :?:
Sideways play in the shaft is quite normal, as long as it doesn't touch the sides or the thing has seized.

It is quite rare for a turbo to go faulty on these engines.

Hey guys i had my transit diagnosed as having a faulty Turbo.cost me €100 . but when i looked at it with a view to removing the turbo ,i noticed the small vacuum tube had come off the turbo. i put this tube back on and it improved the pulling power by about 50%. is there any way that the vacuum has been lost by the hose being off it....and will it improve if i drive it.any help appreciated.

With the EPIC system fitted to the TDs the 'glowplug' light is the engine check.

It should illuminate at ignition on, and go out immediately after starting. If it says on for 5ish seconds there is a fault logged, flashing means a actual live fault and often limp home mode.

No... the glow piug light is the flame start (optional fitment) lamp and the engine management lamp is the engine management lamp. Staying on for 5 seconds indicates there is a historic fault which hasn't been cleared or a minor fault. If there is a major fault it goes in to limp (there are several stages of limp) and it stays on. The epic management lamp doesn't flash.
