Engine judder / shake at around 1600rpm

Postby Fatcarp22 » Mon Oct 30, 2017 5:46 pm

Just treated myself to a 08 transit 2.2 tdci 110bhp and from a private seller. Only to find an annoying fault which could be dangerous also as the van violently judders in 4th & 5th around 1600 rpm up to 2000rpm. Ive searched this forum and found a few threads but are years old discussing the identical issue im having. However theres no real resolution.

Ive unplugged egr as engine management light on and code reader says egr issue. However its not altered the problem. Has any one had this and resolved it before i spend a small fortune on trying to eliminate parts.

Thanks in advance

Egr blanking plate is only a few pounds, it should show you if that it's the fault.

The only way the egr can cause a bad affect is if it is open at the wrong time, any other fault will just throw the lamp, blanking it stops any had to come through and will stop any running problems that the egr was causing.

Personally i think that is rare fault tho.

Van probably wants a good service and a few other checks ie. Front battery if 2 are fitted and an injector leak off test, possible software and valves to be replaced/updated(very common) also clutch might be worn depending on mileage and use etc.

And the list may go on.

my first guess would be inner CV joints if you have a FWD.

This affects 110's more than other models.
Sometimes the better you get it running, the more torque you get , the worse it gets.

Some have cured it by fitting a new crank pulley or the stabiliser bar underneath the engine that connects to the front subframe. So all are worth checkig for excessive wear.

One customer went from single mass flywheel setup to duel.

Maybe installing tweaked 85ps software would work!
