Mk 7 Problem

Mk 7 Mwb 2.2 2008, Bought this last year ran great since then, over last week engine has intermittently started rattling when i put my foot down, then today has started Knocking, with the revs fluctuating, managed to get a specialist (Mobile Mechanic ) to have a look, just managed to start it up revved it up & immediately tuned of the ignition to see when fuel was cut will it still Knock, Obviously it still did (Great).
so he has said the only way forward would to start stripping the engine apart to see what the problem is also no idea of cost, blank cheque basically, Not sure best way forward as i have a 2012 van as well to use so just
sell it on eBay as a none runner & cut my losses... What would you do ?

Don't strip nowt til codes have been read by someone using ids

Could be as simple as ..... Drawing air, or an injector but dont strip engine until its been plugged in mate, i know somone recently on here that had a similar problem and the macomic said engine fooked, pulled engine out , sent it to be rocon'd, refitted and still couldn't get it to run, then started fitting injectors, pumps, and a whole host of things and still couldn't get it running, the poor owner was demented and ended up telling the mechanic to keep the van and walked away from the whole fiasco ,,,,,,cut a long story short ......dont do anything until codes read with ids by someone who knows transits

Before you do anything else, take off the cover and look at the injector clamp bolts, and see if they're loose. A rattling injector can make a horrendous noise when accelerating, and if there's more than one .........
