Epic trouble

Postby Mac1984 » Sat Dec 09, 2017 8:02 pm

Hi all,

First of all apologies if this has been covered before, i am in a desperate situation.
My 98 TD has the following symptoms:

Red engine warning light came on.
Loss of power, I can get moving all right but barely reach 60 on the flat, the slightest climb-
I will lose speed drastically.
Engine keeps running for maybe 10 seconds after I have turned the key.
I will have to go to mot next week, so that's why I am panicking a bit.

I have seen the question been raised as I have looked through the forum if the engine keeps running
When switched off, but I did not find an answer to it .

Thanks for any information towards this.

Cheers

Short fix; Stall engine as you turn off the key :)

Permanent fix; Fit new ESOS (electronic switch off solenoid) to the pump 8)

Tried that this morning, and I flew along the motorway.

Thanks for the advice, at least it didn't feel like a continental drift anymore,
However the delay in shutoff still exists .

Is there a DIY/ temporary solution that I can do, just to get it through the test? I guess it will take a while to get the parts required?

Thank you so much

As long as they don't claim it is a 'turbo timer' and bounce it for the MOT.

Thank goodness she passed. I actually got it through as turbotimer.

They had a laugh like, what kind of crazy guy had a performance car thing in a transit, but I got my disc.
Thankfully it switched off every time the same way.

What Altransit said. Stall it until you fit a new ESOS plunger. How too in the how too section
