Postby Pikeonhisbike » Mon Dec 11, 2017 8:56 pm

Ford transit tourneo 2004 2.0 TDCI

Right.... So iv gone and brought a new starter motor but when I went to take the old starter off the van and the top 13mm bolt is rounded and now aswell as it being a pain in the butt to get to, I can't get a grip on it.. Doesn anyone have any suggestions on how I can remove it? Cheers pike

Have you tried knocking a 12mm socket on, if you take both intake manifolds off you should be able to get to it better. N

Make sure your using a 6 point socket :!:
Failing that get/borrow them special sockets that cut into the bolt head the harder you turn to loosen, they’ve never failed to remove a bolt for me yet my set is made by Irwin and cost less than £20, the best money I’ve spent in a long time on tools.

Iv tried a 12mm socket but it won't go on and there's no way I can get a hammer in there to persuade it :?

Okay, I will try 1/2 inch... Is it true that if you somehow stretch the rubber off a burst balloon over a rounded bolt you can gain grip? Have any of you heard of this before? Pike

Cut the head off, or drill the head off.

Pull the starter off, then blow torch the bolt and unscrew it with mole grips

That's not very nice... Even though my van isn't working properly at the moment and hasn't been working properly due to various reasons since iv had it, I love my van, it's great and has character and I look forward to enjoying it when it's working

Have you got enough room to mig weld a bigger nut over the rounded bolt the heat will also help free the bolt off
Or in the past I have used a die grinder and high speed metal bur if you can’t get a disc grinder in
