Contaminated fuel?

Hi guys ..looking for advice on my van ..it's seems to run OK for a while then misfires I think ..puts out small puff o black smoke while it misses ..sometimes cuts out but will usually start again then misfires now and then ....can only describe it as a cough...had new filters oil changes etc..was wondering if contaminated fuel could be the issue ..thanks ..
