Engine information

Hi All, I work at a university and upon clearing out one of the labs we have come across engine that was used many moons back. The information I was given was that it was a 1985 2.4 diesel transit engine but we have no idea if that is correct? Could anyone be able to tell from a few pics if it is indeed such engine?
