2009 (59) MK7 Transit 2.4 RWD 115 - White Smoke

Postby Click4 » Wed Jan 24, 2018 10:43 pm

Hi, just looking for ideas.

Few years back, 3 years, prior owner had engine rebuilt and 2 recon injectors.

White smoke, did leakoff test, injectors 2+3 leaking off too much diesel, injector 3 was the worst, almost filled bottle.
One of them, can’t remember which one now was one of the recon injectors.

Fitted 2x new Delphi injectors, to 3+4, Genuine ford Diesel Filter.
1+4 (one original and 1 recon) sent for testing which returned good, then refitted to 1+2

Reprogrammed all 4 injection correction codes to correct cylinders.
Noticed that cylinder 2 previously was a load of 000s prior to me reprogramming the correction codes.

Did injector pump learn which completed successfully.
Did injector pilot learn which completed successfully.

But still lots of white smoke intermittently and today started and it shut off.

Any ideas?

Can’t be injectors, 2 are brand new and 2 was tested as fine by a diesel specialist.

Thanks

Engine shut off, does restart just lots of White smoke.

I’m thinking possibly EGR, but also read about SCV and PRV problems also

Sounds like injector issue again , do another leakoff test and as his lordship mentioned check for codes

Check in case the injector clamp has loosened off , sometimes fitting them you can catch an edge with clamp and gives a false tightness and slackens off shortly after running

No codes, no eml either

Could be but 2 injectors were brand new! Never used, weren’t even recon, fresh from denso and other 2 had tested and they said they checked out fine.

Will check injector clamps again.

There's few places that can properly test these injectors mate was it a big reputable company like PF Jones

I’m going to assume the 2 brand new non recon ones should be ok.

Smoking seems to of stopped so will keep an when and see how it goes.

http://www.essexdiesel.co.uk/diesel-fuel-injection.html

That was where i had them tested, he reconditions them also.
Don’t know if he’s any good but he charged £30 to test 2 injectors.

Dropped them down in afternoon.

Following morning I picked them up, he had cleaned them and put caps on them and said they was all fine, I even asked about spray pattern and he replied again yep all good.

Still not right.

Started it up other day massive cloud of white smoke like during pilot learn process I did weeks back.

Revved it a bit and the smoke cleared and it has been fine again ever since until yesterday, started it, no white smoke but engine shuddered badly then just shut off on its own.

Restarted after and again perfectly fine.

:( any ideas?

Thanks

Absolutely no codes at all.

Checked several times, not even a check engine light.

When it’s running it’s fine it’s when you start it occasionally clouds of white smoke that disappate and also sometimes a shudder with engine shutting off.

To me clouds of white smoke on startup sounds like a dripping injector leaking diesel into cylinder.

But I had the 2 tested which supposedly came back fine

Become a little more permanent now....

Yet runs fine, no misfire no uneven running revs fine etc no error codes etc
