Some vacuum pumps with two blankers where the oil feed and return are located on the bottom of the pump  I have seen more than once that they have not been removed and the pump running with no oil
On the sixth day God created a Sprinter on the seventh he gave it away and bought a TRANSIT

Thanks for the info like I say only got the van back Thursday after both vac pump and water pump changed seemed OK only travelled about 60 miles and today heard a slight wine noise as I drove through the gears stopped opened the bonnet with the engine running and put my hand at the back of the vac pump bloody hot. The only other question is the water pump I assume it bolts onto the block directly onto the water jacket ? so where does the oil get into the water pump up to the vac pump is there a small pipe connection ?
As to my previous problems with engine flutter ect and burning oil at 2500 have had new turbo complete, new fuel pump, new injectors common rail pressure sensor the fuel tank full of thick oil removed and cleaned new fuel lines ALL BECAUSE THE SEAL FAILED ON THE FUEL PUMP SHAFT INTO THE TIMING COVER ALLOWING ENGINE OIL TO CONTAMINATE THE SYSTEM.
All that cost to last less than a week and now this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The water pump gets its water from rubber hoses, in and out, the connection to the block is the oil feed and the mounting bolts only, the oil passes through channels in the water pump up to the vac pump, then back down through the water pump and into the block.

As said, either the pump is not getting oil due to sealant blockage or gasket incorrect, or bungs left in....or the pump may be faulty. It will get quite hot in use, as the veins inside are a friction type, but the oil should help cool it and lubricate the bearings.

You could take the vac pump off and check for blockages etc, and see if any oil is present, its really easy and doesn't take more than 10 mins on a RWD van.

Thanks to all for the info and advice going to remove the vac pump and look at the oil ways as described and hope to see signs of oil if nothing back to the garage. I must say with all the work done the garage that replaced the turbo and fuel pump plus the contaminated fuel tank they never changed the oil or oil filter would of thought that would of been a matter of course your thoughts ??

You'd think with replacing the turbo, yes replacing the oil and filter would be a good idea....nothing stopping you from doing it though..!

Thanks one and all now had an engine flush and new oil filter plus oil of course, sounds like a different engine plus the vac pump yes runs hot but not as hot as before sad that the cost of £80.00 for the oil change could have saved me £420.00 to change the water pump and vac pump.
