Timing chain service 2006, 280 1998cc td

Postby rjwoodcock » Fri Feb 09, 2018 8:35 am

Can anyone help please. My van has done 158,000 miles, serviced yearly, and the timing chain never touched. Does this need to be replaced /serviced? Thanks a million. Richard

Do you get any rattle from the chain on first start up of the day before the oil pressure is up and the hydraulic adjuster has taken up the slack they only rattle when the chain guides are worn bad enough to let the chain go slack and rely on the adjuster to pump up

Preventative maintenance is always cheaper than having to replace a cylinder head mate,
better safe than sorry and best to fit genuine ford chain and tensioner
