fshowing ps spec's on chassis????

Postby 4x4 tranny » Tue Feb 13, 2018 7:55 am

HI
Had a bit of a look round here and seen a few answers on PS/hp standards, but is there anyway of knowing what is the PS/hp of a van with out crawling under and checking the engine number.
Like is it stamped on the chassis some where or in the Vin number, as its making it hard to hunt down a particular engine. Yes know they can be changed , but at least be a starting point, or is there some visual way of identifying what they are other then the numbers on the doors?
also how can you identify the diesel pumps from a vp33 to a vp44 visually or is there stamping number some where?
Thanks for the help in advance.

In most cases tbe basic motors are to the same spec - internal differences like piston crown and cooling on later models.

It's the ancillaries; injectors, turbo, ECU map that governs the output.

Hi Jim
yes, sort of under stood that, but what I'm trying to understand, by looking at a vehicle how do you know which engines got with out climbing under and checking the engine number? I know that some have PS specs on the doors but guess some doors have been changed or engines changed.
just thought there be some stamping on the chassis or vin number to verify.

The VIN plate will give you the engine code, and I believe that the turbo has a sticker on it with the engine PS. If all else fails, put the reg number into ETIS, (or ask someone on here to do it for you) :)

Anything with a lower output will be a VP30, and over 115ps (I think!) will be a VP44

Hi Altransit

cheer mate thanks for the information all will help,
even some of the so called experts here in Australia don't seem to know, been talking to a couple of dealers and they say you got to check engine number which seems real strange

Just shoot us your VIN and we'll check for you...or at least find out what it had when it left the factory..

Usually there's a 4 digit "alpha numeric" number on the sticker in one of the door jambs...like this one:

In this case the "H9FB" at top right is the engine code.
