Mk6 t350 135 limp home mode and misfire.

Postby marsden1968 » Tue Feb 13, 2018 2:19 pm

My 2004 Transit T350 2.4 135 RWD has an intermittent problem which has my garaged stumped. The van starts fine and runs perfectly for between 5 and 10 miles but on slowing down for the first turn off on my journey to work it starts to misfire and loose all power. The heater plug symbol on the dash then starts to flash. If I stop and leave the van for half an hour it starts and runs fine. The garage diagnosed a cracked injector plug and changed the part of the loom that has the plugs in it. This didn't work so I'm back to square one. The only other thing of note is that in wet weather the valley in the top of the engine fills with water. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Flashing coil light is telling you its in limp mode and will have stored an error code, have the codes read and it will tell you the fault, I'm betting on injector/s and or pump failing. N

They were prone to poor connection of the electrical plug onto injectors,
That will cause the misfire,CYL 1 seemed to get the water dripping from screen etc.

I think it will log a dtc for injector circuit, but doesn't identify the cylinder.
It could well also be an electrical failure of 1 injector.

(I'd likely look at cyl 1,again first)

That makes sense as when it was "performing" the mechanic pulled the plug off the injector and it made no difference. We assumed that it was the plug as it was rusty inside.
Thank you for the reply.

Just to post a conclusion for anyone with a similar problem. Took the injector to Diesel Bob at Ribchester in Lancashire. He confirmed that the electrics were shot due to water damage. He repaired it for me and it was back in the van the next day. The van is now running sweet as a nut. Thanks to all who commented with advice. Much appreciated.
Russell.
