Gearbox crunch/grind

Postby TheTwoToneRebel » Sun Feb 18, 2018 4:15 pm

Hi i have a 2002 ford transit T280 2.0td FWD.

basically it drives ok it just could be better the problem i am having is when i select 1st gear i need to raise the clutch a little before it will go in and sometimes when at junctions it feels like its in first but when i lift the clutch pedal it crunches and i have to put pressure on the gear lever to get it to go in 1st gear.
another problem is when i'm driving and try to go from 2nd to 3rd it will crunch unless i change gear really slow and sometimes it just crunches anyway, if i'm going down from 4th to 3rd its the same it will crunch unless i change down stupidly slow.
all the rest of the gears are fine its just 1st and 3rd i have a problem with i have replaced the clutch and changed the gearbox oil but there was no change.
Many Thanks, Jay.

Could also be an issue with the gear selector turret on top of the box.

Have a look in the technical how-to section :- viewforum.php?f=18&start=50
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small
