Hi new member here banana engine

Postby Kevinstewart » Sun Feb 25, 2018 12:29 pm

Hi guys girls I own a series 3 landrover which had a transit 2.5 Di engine in it untill it slipped two teeth and wrecked the head and pistons I've bought another Di banana style engine and trying to find year of manufacture so I can replace all the belts before its fitted to my landrover. There is a code on the inlet manifold ending in A.A. Thanks in advance Kevin.

Di's usually bend pushrods and maybe break a rocker or 2.
All external top end stuff that can be repaired/replaced without taking the head off.
it's a non inteferance engine :?
You must have dropped a valve or the head had been skimmed within an inch of it's life.

Hi pushrods where completely straight. It must have dropped a valve or two. I've bought a complete engine to replace but came out of a range rover and unsure of year as I want to replace all the belts on it and need to sell the power steering pump as my landrover doesn't have power steering.

There'a a year on the top front surface of the head which may give you a clue so long as the head is original.

The cam belt only came in two versions, 25.4mm and 28mm wide from memory so just measure the width of what's on there now.

it will be 130 teeth x 25.4mm up to 1997 or
130 teeth x 28mm from 1997-2000
both these belts have 3.5mm teeth height,

unless its a really early engine, which has 25.4 x 130 teeth but only 2.5 mm teeth height.

This post has some part numbers to help cross reference the belt.
