Chuggy, i dont know what happened and why, a pump that was turning fine the first day...also a shaft that is maybe doing 200000mls is suddenly snapping?

i dont have any explanation for it :?:

i am thinking of maybe getting the pump to a diesel specialist and see how much a repair is.

Im really interested in bambi mk1s offer now, if you have a pump, and if i can scrape the money together, we have a deal.
I am down in Clare btw.

in any case i think it would be practical to have a second pump, if the repair is too expensive i could try and give it a go myself with the broken one.

thanks very much to the 2 of you for support :mrgreen:

I doubt that the shaft has snapped, but you never know, its more likely a broken spring if there is no tightness to the pump shaft.

have a look in this post there are stripdown and rebuild videos, look for the stripdown video viewtopic.php?f=4&t=184873

if you watch it see how to take just the top cover of the pump off, you can safely do this and look inside without doing any damage and see if there is anything obviously loose/broken
BUT before removing anything take pictures, or make notes/sketches of how things look and mark everything so you can put it back together again.

thank you so much to both of you.

hopefully this baby is finally back on the road soon.

@Bambi Mk1 : ive sent you a pm. If you have something, it would be more then appreciated, as i have this Van way too long of the road now. At least i know where the fault is now.

Another thing: Will it be safe to use the timingbelt/Tensioner a second time? it only ran a few turns anyway, and this month has been really tight financially, so if even i can operate for a few months it
might be a good help.

thanks again for all the help i got so far, this forum is really helpful.

cheers

Its simple enough to take the top cover off, you'll see what I mean after you see the video (its in the first few mins)

As long as the timing belt and tensioner have not been damaged removing, then I would use them.

Thanks to Bambi MK1, I have a new pump now to install this weekend.

Chuggy, I will give that pump a go and if running and my mind at rest, then I might check out the
Old one and see what happend to it. I have contacted a diesel specialist also regarding a potential overhaul.

I will update the out come of my operation later this weekend..

Thanks for all the help so far

Ok all the parts are boxed up and ready to tomorrow.

Special thanks to Bambi MK1 for supplying the injection lines as well..
No more bending necessary hopefully.

The previous pump was 145, the actual one is 142. Looks pretty similar to me, not sure where the differences really are.

Seems like the travel of the accelerator lever on the 142 pump is much less then on the 145, is that normal?
Maybe the stop screw is just so far out. I line the two pumps up beside each other tomorrow and have a closer look
Before I start the job.

Hopefully all will go well this time, will give an update on the project later at the weekend.

Anything else important I should do/not do before I bolt the 142 pump on?

Thanks a lot for all the help so far.

The pumps on di's are all the same internally and the 142 is the same spec as 145,

pump ID numbers are
145 = VE4/11F2000R686-2
142 = VE4/11F2000R686-1

VE = VE type pump
4 = number of cylinders
11 = 11mm plunger
F = mechanical governor (E = electronic governor)
2000 number = governor controlled RPM (this is pump rpm not engine rpm)
R = clockwise rotation (L = counter clockwise)
686-2 number = production number
List of Bosch VE injection pumps and vehicle fitment and model numbers http://www.vepump.cn/CZB.htm

I would check the operation of the stop solenoid whilst the pump is off and easy to get to.

If the pump has been sitting around for a while the front drive shaft seal can shrink and allow air in so have a good look to see if the seal looks in good condition, again its easier to change with the pump off the vehicle.

Check the throttle stop screws are the same when comparing pumps, but maybe it could be that bambi has wound up the low and max throttle screws and adjusted the throttle to suit by reducing the lever travel.

Best wishes for tomorrow Mac.

Thanks chuggy,

So they should be very similar then. Happy days.

Tomorrow evening we will know if and how it runs.

Thanks for all the support. Can't wait to get it all back together now.

the nightmare continues..

working in the cold wind does not really contribute to progress...

i have the new pump on, but cant get the timingbelt sorted anymore... maybe im loosing my nerves or something..

anytime im tightening the tensioner, the pins get so stiff that i cant pull them out anymore... how frustrating is this :oops: :oops:

anyway, i still hope im getting sorted before dark.. never give up.

Just gave that a crank by hand and now the whole timing is out.. the pump, the camshaft by about 2 drill diameters and the 13 mm does not go in at all anymore...

i think im done..

just cant think straight anymore and i have enough of freezing outside...

i carefully played with the cam and crankshaft and i managed to set it so that all 3 pins line up again... correctly.

first time today i was sweating i think :twisted:

i should try maybe to put the belt on again from scratch... also ive noticed that the pump has a tendancy to pull backwards,

what i mean is that, when i install the pin in the pump, and let go, the pump spring pushes hard against the pin and its very hard to get it out.. that is without any timingbelt installed now, only the internal tension inside the pump.

i am not sure, but i dont think the previous one has done that, it stayed in position. maybe this has something to do with my belt getting so tight as well???

questions over questions and i am not finding any answers :shock:

any help appreciated, i am hoping to get this baby going again before all the brakes are seized...

this was my last attempt.. all pins in, camshaft pin went in nicely, tightend the belt, camshaft pin still went in and out nicely, tried to advance the pump a little and then the pin does not move anymore, in fact the drill bit starts to bent slightly.

i am at the end, and prob have a cold tomorrow or pneumonia next week.

The pump pulls very hard to the counterclockwise direction (to the left, when standing in front of the vehicle looking backwards) and i cant do anything about it.

might be an adjustment thing, but i dont have enough experience with these pumps to know what to do next..

gonna lean back now and enjoy the rest of st. paddys day :) :) :) :)
