Transit mk7 vibrates when slowing down with gears.

Postby Davehendyuk » Sun Mar 04, 2018 2:51 pm

Hi everyone. I hope someone can help me...
I have just bought a 62 plate fwd transit Mk7, it is vibrating through the whole van when I slow down using the gears (no braking, as braking is fine).
It has 80,000 on the clock. Also it sounds rough.. with knocking when cold, and is ok when warmed up.
With the last MK7 I had, I could hear it clearing the egr when it was turned off, but I don’t hear it with this one. (Is this normal with later models?)
I’m going to take it back to the garage, but I wondered if I could maybe get a heads up, in case they tried fobbing me off.
This is my 3rd transit
First one was a 1997 Smiley (Ex BT)
And the second was a wonderful MK 7, that just died at 300K.
(The engine is still sound though).
If anyone has any idea on what is wrong, it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Dave

Vibrating through whole van could be drive shafts not happy.

Have you had the codes read..??

Mk7's do have a slight diesel knock when cold but should be relatively quiet when warm. Might pay to get a full set of learns and PCM update done if it hasn't been done recently. The pump, injectors and valves do wear over time and a twiddle on IDS or Forscan can do wonders sometimes.

EGR should do a self clean cycle when engine is turned off.

Thank you for the reply’s I’m going to get it checked out this morning. I don’t want it to be a big problem like the dmf. I’ll also clean the egr valve and add some injector cleaner to see if it quietens down.
Thanks again

I'm afraid injector cleaner will more than likely be a waste of your time & money.....it's essentially designed to clean the money out of your wallet, a short term-quick fix is all it's good for and even then they rarely do anything useful.
A full set of learns and a PCM update is probably the best way to go, as the pump & injection parts wear, they need to be tweaked every now and then to keep them in the sweet spot. If you're in getting it checked out and the garage is half competent, you might as well get it done whilst you're there.
