Can a Mk6 2.4 engine be fitted to the Mk7 five speed gearbox?

Are you trying to fit the engine in a Mk7...or fitting the gearbox into a Mk6..??

The gearbox should bolt up to the engine ok...but the problem is the Mk7 box gears are cable operated whereas the Mk6 box is not. Also the Mk7 doesn't have a speedo drive and I believe the clutch setup and output drive flange may be different, I understand there's a 3 or 4 hole drive flange for them depending on which Mk6 model it's fitted to, I think the Mk6 drive flange from early 2000 to late Oct 2001 they were 4 hole and from Nov 2001 onwards they were all three hole.

There may be other differences as well.

I am fitting a Mk6 2.4 engine and gearbox with all the parts inc the dash and propshaft to get it running to a Mk7 van and thought it may be easier to fit it to the original cable type gearbox.

If that's the case, then you'll need all the Mk6 engine bay, ECU/PCM wiring looms, and dash looms as well...the Mk6 & Mk7 wiring system is totally different in that respect. The Mk6 is obviously TDDi and the Mk7 TDCi...so all the engine running looms and control modules are completely different...Then there's the matter of the different braking systems etc...it's gunna be a rather big and challenging modification. :?

I’m sure the mk7 selector can be made to fit the mk6 box with a few minor mods,

I have everything from the Mk6 you mention, what is the difference in the braking systems? ABS and body control?

Shouldn't need to worry about the brakes if you're fitting the Mk6 engine into a Mk7 van....although I'm not sure if the original Mk7 PCM talks to the BCM and ABS modules. The Mk6 has drums on the rear and the Mk7 has discs all round, so one would imagine the braking system & ABS system is different to the Mk6.

I know the Mk6 engine doesn't bolt onto the Mk7 six speed, was hoping that someone would know if the five speed bolted direct.

Hmmm...Seems rather strange as the same basic 2.4L engine in the Mk7's has both gearboxes, MT75 5speed & MT82 6speed. The MT75 is fitted to the 2.4 100ps engine and the MT82 is fitted to the 2.4L 115ps & 140ps...it's also fitted to the 3.2L 200ps engine. There may be differences in the clutch and clutch slave setup which could cause grief.

The same MT75 gearbox was fitted to most Mk6 2.4 TDDi machines too. Some Mk6 machines, (the TDCi 135ps) even had the MT82 6speed box as standard.

I have got back to someone that tried the conversion to six speed who told me it didn't work, the problem wasn't bolting it up but the fact that the six speed is an inch longer box.

I take it the way to do it is use the shorter prop shaft which goes with the six speed box.

Also means that the Mk7 five speed box will bolt to Mk6 engine and prop shaft.

Drop the ABS. Mk7 rear axle ABS pickup rings are not compatible with mk6 ABS pump. & MK7 ABS pump Communicates with PCM & BCMII on mk7s.
With a non functioning ABS system, van will never pass MOT. Unless ABS has been removed

This is what I had to do when converting from mk7 2.2 TDCI to mk6 2.0 TDCI engines in thread here  viewtopic.php?f=27&t=182739

Also mk7 BCMII is not compatible with mk6 wiring looms, of which you'll need the fit to run mk6 engine.
You'll require all mk6 looms from front to back.
