Mark 7 Head Gasket problems on way ??

Postby Birmingham » Wed Mar 14, 2018 12:39 pm

Hi Lads. I have an 09 Transit 2.2 85 swb. Now i'm not sure whether its anything to worry about, but the oil filler cap was a bit gunky(very slightly) when I checked the other day. I have a long drive up to Scotland from Birmingham in the half term with my boy coming up and really want to know whether there's any advance warning for a Gasket going ? I'm thinking it might need a good flush and oil change, but I just want to know whether the mark 7 are prone to them going ???

Very rare for a head gasket to go on a mk7, but a wee bit of gunk round the filler cap isn’t, unless there’s a lot I wouldn’t worry.

If there is an excessive amount, it could be the oil cooler. These are far more common to fail.

Thanks for replying Punto. Yeah, not loads of gunk. I'm going to give it a good flush, see what its like after a run

Is there oil around the injector seals ? If injector compression seal(copper washer) is leaking slightly it can gunge up the filler cap as well as tell tale sign of oil mess around the injectors

There's plenty on here in how to bud, but fairly straight forward
