HID upgrade issues, help needed.

Postby Motoxmadman01 » Sat Apr 21, 2018 12:43 pm

Hi guys, new to the site. I have a 17 plate transit custom hi roof. The main beam coverage is shocking. So bought some error free canbus, 5000k HID upgrade bulbs, run these on my car no issues at all. Fitted like a dream, fired the van up, switched them on, they stay on for around 10 seconds max they just shut off. They are meant to be error free. Won’t stay on for longer than 10 seconds. Is there a way around this or is there certain upgrades I need? Doing my nut in now. Thanks for any help on the issue. Luke

17 plate, I don’t think the op will be worrying about mot rules for a while

Thanks for the info guys.. yes I am aware of the rules on HID kits on standard lamps.. I have ran these kits for years on cars never had anyone flash me, no MOT fails over them, my headlights are always correctly aligned and slightly lower dipped beam. The standard bulbs on these vans are shocking and upgraded one aren’t clever neither. I find these to be the best solution. Just after a way of getting around them cutting out. Thanks

Don’t worry about the fun sponge, he always trots out that line when people mention hids.

The standard lights aren’t epic but but if you find them “shocking” I’d be looking at getting the alignment checking (I know you said you have it done for hids, but it could be wrong from the factory), the other option for you maybe the Philips LED bulbs which have just become available, I’ve been running them on a Connect for 6 months with no cutting out or other issues.

Have a set of the Philips LEDs in my Mk7 and they are well worth the rather substantial price tag.

I will have a look into those, is there no way of by passing to get the HIDS working? The light they produce are brilliant. Thanks

One of the vosa inspectors says that if they are stopping and checking any vehicle of any age regardless of it being of testable age or not they will&must conform to to the relevant specs for mot/lgv/hgv testing regs or they will do you .what an absolute bugger!!!

And DVSA are getting a load more mobile units for the checking of vehicles on the roads, as they are aware of people changing bits over for the MOT then putting other parts back on after Mot that don't conform to the MOT regulations.
