Seeking Mk6 Drivers Swivel Seat base/handbrake advice

Postby firewalker » Sat Apr 21, 2018 9:12 pm

Mk6 Transit 2002 with handbrake on drivers left.

Thinking of fitting the FASP swivel base to the drivers seat, as usual had a search on here for advice but still need to find out if the handbrake definitely needs relocating lower down as some say or if it is possible to just operate the swivel (rotate it to be rear facing) by lowering the handbrake lever to the off position to allow the seat to pass over it, as others claim?

Looking at the height of the handbrake I can't really see how it won't get in the way unless the swivel base lifts it considerably.
I'm assuming the adjustment rails (for forward/backward) sit on top of the swivel base when it is sandwiched between the seat and battery box?

If anyone has any definite first hand advice I'd appreciate it - it seems some say the handbrake needs to be repositioned or it will never work and some say not if you lower it to 'handbrake off' whilst you rotate the seat.

Also wouldn't repositioning the handbrake lever lower slacken the handbrake cable meaning it then needs adjusting?

Thanks in advance gents.

Even lowering the handbrake you still have to let handbrake to off lowering it does no effect the adjustment as all it does is push the cable through the floor if you don’t lower it the seat fowls the handbrake rubber gator and yes swivel goes between seat base and seat

The conclusion is:

The handbrake lever unit needs to be unbolted and positioned lower (or to the right hand side of the driver) when fitting swivel bases to the drivers seat or it will block the rotation of the seat regardless of wether the handbrake lever is lowered or not.

Lowering the lever to the 'handbrake off' position is also required to rotate the seat 180 degrees even after the modification.

So no avoiding the relocating of the brake lever.

I even tryed putting box section spacers between seat box and swivel but all it did was make my knees to near the steering wheel it’s easy to lower the handbrake all I did was re drill the holes lower down and make up spacers for bottom holes

Thank that had crossed my mind as well.
Sounds worth a go if its just some drilling, I will try it and if it still looks iffy just put it back where it was!

Mines been on 8years been ok if you do a search on the forum someone did a real good job made a bracket and welded to seat box was a top job the only mod I did to the lever was to bend the bottom lugs to sit flat on the spacers
