5th gear is gone

Hi All,

I drive a 1997 Ford Transit camper. Yesterday I was driving along when all of a sudden 5th gear stopped working, the last few weeks the reverse has been awkward to get in, but now 5th gear is gone. Do I need to replace the entire gearbox? Also if I do have to replace the gearbox is it possible to fit a 6 speed gearbox?

probably easier to fit a new box, to change 5th gear is quite involved

Don't think there's a six speed box that will fit but i believe there's an overdrive unit that can be fitted , needs a shorter prop shaft then.

i dont think i would swap an MT75 for an overdrive box

Check which set of internal ratios you have - see build plate - as there are 3 different versions if I recall. Think they are gaps 1st to 3rd - to suit diff ratio and load capacity.
