mk6 engine wont crank

Postby jakezelesco » Thu May 24, 2018 6:10 am

Alright ive got an 05 swb 2.0 diesel manual. The van hasnt ran in a month due to possible starter motor problems, changed the starter with one laying around but they seem to be working fine just now, try to push start the van but it doesnt want to go just one puff of smoke n nothing else. Seems to have fuel pressure at injectors, 12.7v at the starter, clean filters, What should i try/inspect next?
thanks in advance

Check if the fuel filter is full of diesel and push or bump starting a transit in the wrong gear can knock the timing out

couple updates, fuel filter is full it really seems to be getting no pressure at all. fuel injector fuse was blown then replaced but no difference. the glow plug light flashes so its indicating a fault.iv got nothing to check what it is just basics. the engine itself seems to have compression, any advice? before i take it to someone to put a computer on it.

Sounds like a fuel pump issue, you could try checking the wiring to the pump especially around the starter motor area. N

so ive checked the wiring seems to be fine. now iv cleaned the (new) starter and put it back in ,it is just clicking as before and cannot turn the engine over. i thought it was a fuel issue but the engine is not turning over at all. just trying to cover all bases before i pay to get a computer on it. any advice would be much appreciated

If the starter is just clicking it could be a bad earth where the lead goes from the starter bolt to the passenger chassis leg as it's a common place for water and corrosion

so after abit of further investigating, the problem was a few things the battery was faulty but also found a snapped rocker bolt that had jammed, possibly from bump starting? or maybe just a coincidence. either way lesson learnt the hard way not to bump start transits:)

You'll need to get into timing chain , if engine was never turning over the chains been the culprit from the start, probably jammed engine from turning over
