Mk6 engine and gearbox into mk4

Postby Phily-b » Fri May 25, 2018 1:43 pm

Hi this year my emissions were not tested on the MOT probably cause of it's age but now I hear that visable smoke will now cause it to fail an MOT soon will that then be an issue with my 1989 mk4 transit motorhome if so what better engine will fit in with not to much messing about
I'm wondering if you can swap the old diesel engine rear wheel drive it is for a mk6 turbo diesel engine and gearbox many thanks for reading my query

Think it's the newer motors with a DPF fitted that the visible smoke applies to.

I think I’ve read somewhere that if you fit a engine out of a newer vehicle the emissions will be tested to the spec of that engine

When I used to floor my mk6 it had black smoke then after I blanked the egr and smashed out the dpf it ran a lot cleaner so it will be interesting to see the results of the new test
