Coolant sucked into engine

Postby teignman » Thu Jun 14, 2018 3:23 pm

I kept topping up my coolant regularly as it had a suspected leak that I couldn't find. I was having to add more and more until the lot got sucked into the engine and mixed with the oil. This suggested a blown head gasket. However it surprised me just how quickly the coolant was sucked into the engine. I wanted to use the Steel Seal gasket sealant, but I thought that it would just get sucked into the oil as well before it got up to temperature and actually did the job of sealing the gasket. Just had an oil change to get all the sludge out and I don't want to have to do that again. Any suggestions welcome.

+1...^^^...Definitely sounds like a dead oil cooler....if you were losing coolant and it wasn't ending up in the oil...I'd suspect the EGR cooler.
