Where is front jacking point on Mk5 smiley ,bannana engine.

Postby OuterMongolia » Fri Jun 15, 2018 9:27 am

Attempted to jack up front end to change front wheel but all that happened was body got higher and front wheel stayed on ground with the suspension damper becoming more extended .The owners manual is a bit vague and just says place jack under front side member with an arrow point at the front on diagram from the side.Where does the jack actually go ? anyone got a picture?

Anywhere solid enough to support the weight

i usually put the jack under the wishbone if I want a wheel off.
Although that's not really an option if the tyre is flat.

:( :( :( :(
1 get air into the tyre quicker than it's coming out to get enough lift for the jack to go under the wishbone.
2 use more than 1 jack.(1 to lift the body so it's raising the suspension enough to get a second jack under the wishbone)
3 use 1 jack under the body/sill and chock using wood blocks to get the desired hight.

Never fun when the wheel is completly flat

the spare wheel was stolen by the "travellers" and the block of wood is neededd to stop the engine shaking about.

The large plate that connects the wheel hub to the subframe. Try and get a jack anywhere under that. I have a small-ish scissor jack that's perfect for this job, when the trolley jack won't go under, or i drive up onto a 2" thick piece of wood to give it 2" more height to start with

The block must have been stolen or never there to begin with.
Think it was an optional extra when the van was new. :?
