Difference of Master brake cylinders mk5

Postby Mac1984 » Thu Jun 21, 2018 6:45 pm

Hi guys,

Can you please give me advice regarding the different types of master brake cylinders installed on the mk5?

I am trying to replace the MBC together with the servo. My mk5 has abs, and the cylinders for sale "with abs" are much higher in price, yet I can't see the difference in all of them..

Looks like many cylinders have 3 connection, mine has only 2, yet there seem to be a blind plug in between them two.

Another difference is the distance between the two openings, in which the container with the brake fluid clips in. On my cylinder, there is more distance and on many I see online, there are much closer together..

What I want to find out: could I fit a normal cylinder with two brake line connectors, then just retrofit the return lines to the fluid container? Or am I missing something else?

My original ate master brake cylinder has the following part number: 106123.0154.3

Many thanks for your help.

I can't answer for your questions, but maybe I can help little bit:
- are four different MBC for Mk5,
- two with ABS, 7143733 (94VB-2B507-BA) 08.08.1994 - 30.04.1997 and 1047659 (98VB-2B507-BA) 30.04.1997 - 31.08.2000
- two less ABS 7034902 (94VB-2140-AB) 08.08.1994 - 30.04.1997 and 1047660 (98VB-2B507-AA) 30.04.1997 - 31.08.2000

Thanks for that info wojciech.

Seems nobody knows this.. I found a new abs cylinder for a good price and decided not to take any chances when its about safety.

Still i would be interested why there is different part numbers.

Anyway a step closer to having good brakes again.

Cheers
