2012 2.2 fwd excessive crankcase pressure Help PLEASE

Postby Ken205 » Fri Jun 22, 2018 10:30 pm

Just bought a van off a friend of mine knowing it was burning a lot of oil.
He was just after fitting brand new turbo ,dpf did a regen and then gave up with his mechanic diagnosing an engine rebuild.
Van is immaculate so I bought it
When I looked at it there was savage crankcase pressure so i pressumed it had to be a cracked piston or a ring.
Rebuilt the engine with another friend using everything new except pistons as they were perfect.
Put in engine and still excessive crankcase pressure causing oil to come out the breather into the turbo and fill the road behind me with smoke behind me from time to time. Thinking we missed a cracked piston we stripped it again Sent the disassembled short block to the engine shop and they confirm block and pistons are perfect. They did say that it took them a long time to hone the block compared to normal and reckoned the new rings didn't bed in . We did hone the block first day but only with a hand one. I also cut the injector seats hoping this was my problem but no better. I am reassembling the engine to put back in at the moment but is there anything else it could be before I go insane. Any help appreciated

Did you check the valves , rockers , camshaft and camshaft carrier ??? If pistons and cylinders are ok than pretty much all is left is the head section .

Did the valve stem oil seals and cut in the valves aswell. Rockers seemed to be fine and when together van was running sweet. This may be a stupid question but how would rockers or camshaft cause crankcase pressure

Rockers or cam wont cause it but a cracked or worn valve guide will  Did you measure the rings in the bores before fitting :?:
On the sixth day God created a Sprinter on the seventh he gave it away and bought a TRANSIT

Ring gaps perfect so no need for going oversized route
Anyone know how the breather in the rocker cover works. I got it washed out and when I blow Back into it there is no restriction but if I suck there is a restriction. I turned it upside down and filed it but brake cleaner only trickles out.it contstantly comes out but at a slow rate. Is this restriction right or have I a problem with it. I want to be sure as a new rocker cover is 250 Euro.

Try and measure compression on each cylinder and that would narrow down searching for the problem .
And might as well have a look at the turbo and turbo seals . Oil can leak in the turbo if seals are gone and lots of white smoke trough the exhaust in that case .
Also can cause engine run away condition when oil is feed back trough the turbo seals in to the intake .

I’m having the same issue with mine after I rebuilt it. Towed it home with engine running for steering and brakes when it had the cracked piston so the exhaust was full of oil and it took a couple of hours to burn off.

Took the rocker cover off yesterday and you can blow through freely from the outside so assumed it was ok.. how did you work out yours was blocked?

If you suck the pipe off the rocker cover there should be no restriction whatsoever

I replaced mine don't think you would clean it too handy
I cut open the old one and the way it works is the mist of oil goes in the big rectangular hole on the left of your picture. It then goes through a baffle kind system to separate the oil from the mist and the oil returns via the brown things. The mist then goes through a small one way valve and a sponge before it meets the spring and diaphragm in the big circular section in the back right corner if you had it the right way up . Then the air (crankcase pressure) is fed back into the pipe feeding the turbo.my sponge was like a concrete block and my one way valve was stuck closed and that was after soaking it overnight and running it through the parts washer twice.
