mk 7 egr removal

Postby rattybathead » Mon Jul 09, 2018 8:59 am

Hi all. got a mk 7, 2.4, 2007 and I'm trying to get the egr valve off. Upper bolt is very tight but in good nick so I sprayed with wd, but the lower bolt is corroded and a 10mm seems too big. an 8mm seems too small. possibly someone has butchered it in the past. Apart from limited access being a major problem, anyone got any suggestions? Was thinking a bout grinding the head off the bolt if I can get into it. seriously stressing! Ps garage would be a last resort due to finances!
Cheers!

Corrosion is a major issue with these machines, especially in the UK and they're definitely a pain to get at on the 2.4 RWD engines.....if you do eventually get the bolts out, I'd suggest fitting 304 or 316 stainless bolts when the EGR goes back in.

I found removing the inlet manifold gives easier access.

I had a right nightmare changing the egr on my mk7, one bolt head sheared off the other rounded off even though I was only using a 1/4" ratchet

It came out like this in the end

I had to replace the egr pipe in the end as the bolts were just too rusted in it
