PCM change now none starter help please

Postby bazw » Sun Aug 05, 2018 3:33 pm

Hi all , I have swapped the PCM and the 2 bits on fuel rail of my Mk 7 2.4 rwd.
Engine turns over like it should but not firing up.
fuel system is bled but its like the Injectors are not working.
All connections seem to be good.

only fault code showing is for the pump needing a learn after the PCM change.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

My only thoughts were I have a bad electrical side on the PMC or the Fuel rail sensor and its stopping the ECU from running the engine but Electricals are not my thing.

+1..!!

You can't just plonk a PCM into it and expect it to work....it needs to know where it lives in space...

Was the replacement PCM of the same hp and capacity as your original vehicle..?? Was it coded/reprogrammed to suit your van. Did you do reset the counters and do the learns after replacing the PRV..?? Did you not replace the SCV..?? ...if not, why not..??

pmc is of correct type as far as I am aware.

how would you code it in without fitting it?

counters not reset yet , was not aware of that one but easy to do.

cant do learns until engine is running as far as I am aware.

I thought PCM and SCV were 2 names for the same thing, if not then the part that bolts onto the back of the fuel pump is what I changed along with the sensor anf part on rear of fuel rail.

Replacement PCM will require programming to vehicle 1st before doing anything else. :!:

I think you may be a tad confused...(I usually am)...PCM is "Powertrain Control Module" which is basically the vehichle ECU, lives on the left inner wing of the Mk7's.....SCV is "Suction Contol Valve" which lives on the fuel pump....not really physically related to each other. PRV is "Pressure Relief Valve" which lives on one the end of the fuel rail.

If you've replaced the SCV and PRV, you need to do the PRV reset and then all the learns otherwise she'll never run properly.

So to clarify.

You didn't change any ecu/pcm module?

You only replaced the fuel rail items prv/fps, and the scv on the fuel pump.?

And now it doesn't run?

Only instance I've found that is with dodgy prv.

If in doubt swap them both back over and see if it runs then.

Unless you can confirm the valves are genuine ones from Ford?

Another thing is that you should remove the fuel filter and if it is half/empty then fill it full to the top and refit and start the van, sometimes that can cause start problems initially, especially if you have twin batteries.
